MAPNA Group has received provisional acceptance certificate (PAC) for the third gas-fueled power block of Rumaila Combined Cycle Power Plant in southern Iraq.

With the PAC granted by the Ministry of Electricity of Iraq, MD-2, MAPNA Group’s subsidiary that is in charge of constructing the 3000-MW power plant, has collected PACs for 86 power units with an overall capacity of 13071 megawatts.

MAPNA Group is responsible for design, procurement, transportation, installation, and commissioning of the Rumaila plant which located on the outskirts of Basra, Iraq’s second largest city.

MD-2 also supervises the civil operation of the power plant which is carried out by Shamara Holding Group, the client of the project.

The Rumaila power plant project will be carried out in four phases. The first phase of the project includes construction of six gas-fueled units that run on MAP2B, MAPNA Group’s homegrown turbines.

An efficiency of 34.6 percent has been set for the units, to be increased to 36 percent twelve months after receiving the provisional accreditation certificate (PAC).

The second phase of the project will see addition of three E-type steam units to the six gas fueled units to convert them into combined cycle power blocks.

Phases three and four of the project include the same number of thermal and steam units respectively.

The power plant will eventually comprise six blocks of power (BoP) each with a capacity of 500 MWs.
