MAPNA experts set another milestone in Iran’s power plant industry by increasing the capacity of a single gas unit by 17.8 percent last week.

Gas Unit VI of Parand Combined Cycle Power Plant, located 30 kilometers off Tehran, saw a substantial rise of 24 MWs in its capacity, a remarkable improve in an industry where single-digit improvements on the lower side are considered an achievement.

The new capacity of the gas turbine is 185 MWs, with an efficiency rate of 36.4 percent.

Re-designed and upgraded by MAPNA experts, the MAP2B turbine was synchronized to the national grid at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, June 27th, 2017.

MAP2B, which is the third edition of MAPNA’s upgrade on MGT-70 turbines, is a product of MAPNA Group’s larger OPTIMAP™ project which has been running since five years ago and aims at maximizing the efficiency of active turbines humming across the country.

The flagship project has enjoyed heavy investment by MAPNA Group, and the power plant site in Parand, has served as a hub for MAPNA Group’s R&D activities in the field of gas turbines during the recent years.

The new product will be installed in MAPNA’s megaproject in Rumaila, southern Iraq, where the company is constructing a 3000 MW combined cycle power plant, considered to be Iran’s largest overseas project in the field of technology and services.
