The first unit of Rumaila Combined Cycle Power Plant was synchronized to the Iraqi national grid by MAPNA Group technicians yesterday.

With synchronization of the gas-fueled thermal unit on Saturday, June 9, 2018, the overall number of power plant units synchronized by MAPNA Combined Cycle Power Plants Construction and Development (MD-2) reached the number of 86 with an aggregate capacity of 13,033 megawatts.

MAPNA Group is in charge of design, procurement, transportation, installation, and commissioning operation of the power plant.

MAPNA also supervises the civil construction operation carried out by client Shamara Holding Group.

The first phase of the project includes construction of 6 gas-fueled units running on MAPNA MAP2B turbines. An efficiency of 34.6 percent has been set for the units, to be increased to 36 percent twelve months after provisional accreditation certificate is received.

The second phase of the project will complement the thermal units with three steam E-type steam units.

Phases three and four of the project include the same number of thermal and steam units respectively.

Eventually, the power plant will include six blocks of power (BoP) each with a capacity of 500 MWs.

The Rumaila power plant is located on the outskirts of Basra in southern Iraq.
