The family of gas turbines V94.2 with an approximate number of 200 units in the country, working in simple and combined cycles, forms the main body of thermal power generation. Any technological development on them has a great impact in national scale. In 2012, MAPNA Group embarked a major program, named as MAP2B, for design improvement on these turbines. The design and development program has been successfully completed over five years with a budget of USD 25 million. The modern design increases nominal capacity of the GT to 185 MW with 36.4% efficiency. The new product also boosts the efficiency of MAPNA Group’s E-class combined cycles up to 55%. First engine was tested in July 2017 at Parand Power Station, with results beyond expectations. Thorough examination and validation of the new design underwent, using state-of-the-art measurement technologies that collect 1200 various data from the gas turbine.

The brand new design can be retrofitted on the running units, providing at least 5 GW more capacity in the national power generation fleet. Significant reductions in carbon dioxide emissions (ca. 35 thousand tons per annum for an upgraded units), as well as related fuel cost cut, count as great impacts of the upgrade.

MAPNA Group has succeeded to secure a major export contract based on the brand new machine for construction of the Rumaila Combine Cycle Power Plant, in Iraq; a deal which is worth more than USD 2 billion.
